50/50 Small Business Start Up Grant
For Individuals
What
is a 50/50 small business start up grant?
This is a grant that is set up for individuals who are
wishing to start up their own business within the city limits of Augusta. The individual
must match the share provided by the city.
Example: If you
apply for a $500 grant, you must show proof that you have the other $500 to
purchase equipment, pay rent, etc. by providing the city with copies of your
receipts.
How hard is it to fill out a grant application?
Not hard at all, in fact, very easy. The grant application is
made up of only three questions. The City of Augusta understands that some
grants can be a headache to try to tackle, so we want this to be a very easy and
pleasant experience for you.
Who is eligible for
the grant?
Anyone who wishes to start a business within the city
limits of Augusta.
Example: If you are
a private citizen who lives in Augusta,
you may apply for the grant. If you are someone who lives in another town and
wants to open or build a business in
Augusta, you may also apply for the grant.
What can I purchase
with the grant money?
The grant money can go towards the purchase of equipment
for your business or towards the first months rent of a building, provided the
building is not your home.
What about my
match?
You must provide proof to the city that you have put your
matching share towards your business. This can be done by showing receipts that
are dated after you have been approved for the grant. They can be in the form of
equipment purchased or the first months rent on your building.
How soon will I
know if I qualify for the grant?
Only a few grants are available each year. Once you
complete the grant application, which may be picked up at Augusta City Hall
or requested by mail, you are to return it and it will go before the Grant
Committee. Within about a two week period, you will receive a letter in the mail
informing you if you have qualified for the grant or not.
How much may I
apply for?
There are currently four grants available each year. Two
$500 matching grants and two $250 matching grants.
Example: You may apply for either $500 or $250. Each individual may apply
for only one grant. If you are turned down, you may apply again during the next
grant cycle. For an application, more
